converting a propane heating system to electric - Posted by Brian_Wa

Ducts are ducts mostly. You can put an electric furnace where the propane one is now, but you’ll have to have the right sized wire and breaker ran to the location (220). Which brings us to where there may be a problem, but hopefully not.

Some of the older houses set up with propane/natural gas don’t have a large enough service panel breaker for all of the new added electrical appliances. If you have a 200 amp service panel, you should be fine, but if you have a 100 amp or even a 150 amp panel, you may put too much of a draw on it and trip the main breaker once in a while. You might have to upgrade the service if that is the case. Usually not a big deal, but some things that should be easy sometimes are a pain.

I own a house that has a propane heating system. Most people are deterred by such a system due to the high monthly costs. Is it pretty easy to get this system converted to an electric system? like switching the propane furnace to an electric furnace? What about the heating ducts. Is there any change that needs to be made to them?

Thanks,

Brian
