GTC Telecom – $.05 / minute - Posted by Ron (MD)

The best deal I’ve found is GTC Telecom. I’ve been using them for several months.

Their plan is very simple:

  • $.05 per minute all day every day for interstate calls

  • $.09 per minute intrastate

  • no minumum per month

  • no monthly fee

Their number is 800-665-7234.

Try priceline.com for name your price phone service. It is not free like the PC based programs, but you can use your regular home telephone. You pay in advance for the desired amount of minutes if your bid is accepted. You have 3 months to use the minutes up. To use the program there is a toll free dial around number you call then you enter a PIN and dial the number you wish to call.

Although I got a very good rate I am not too happy with the service right now. The provider who accepted my bid is Net2Phone. When I tried it out for a long distance call there is a delay in the sidetone(where you hear your voice through the earpiece). This gets to be really annoying. As far as hearing the other party there is no problem there and no problem with them hearing me clearly. Priceline and Net2Phone were very quick to respond to my complaint by e-mail. I was told by Net2Phone that they were working on the problem.

I have heard that some of the PC to PC systems are not the best because of the way the internet uses packets. Sometimes they do not reach their destination in the order they were sent.

You may want to check ZDNet and some of the other sites for reviews.http://www.zdnet.com/

Another low cost long distance program to check out is at http://www.onlinechoice.com/

I can get all of my long distance for free - Posted by AL (Ohio)

There is a website called www.dialpad.com

I am on a cable modem so there is hardly any lag at all.

To get the best results, you need earphones, i.e. a headset, so that the people who are speaking to you will not hear themselves over your speakers.

I have done it with my computer microphone, and speakers, it works, it just sounds a little hollow due to the speaker feedback.

You use your computer to call any phone in the world. It is not one of those where you are calling from one computer to another computer.

The only drawback I can see is, you have to look at ads when you are talking to someone. (Just turn your monitor off) :o)

This is real, and it works.

Hope this helps some people out there.

P.S. I don’t own stock in the company, and I am not a paid representative for them. Funny thing is though, even though I have this service available…I don’t use it that much.

Ron-

That is the provider www.onlinechoice.com uses. For signing up with them which is free they have cut the rate to 4.7 cents per minute due to a group buying arrangement. One thing to check when locating a long distance provider is if they charge by the minute or in 6 second increments.

Try www.broadpoint.com - I use their FreeWay service instead of having a calling card. Highly recommend.
