If I am selling, it is a mobile home; when buying, it is a trailer.

Breck Mobile Homes - Posted by Nathan Thomas

I have a 1978 Breck 14 X 70 3 bedroom, 2 bath mobile home. My question has to do with how reliable or how well built are Breck Homes, or is Breck a pretty popular brand, or is the Breck made by a different company? This home seems like it is well built, it has 2 X 4 exterior walls and 2 X 6 floors, it seems to be a pretty nice home, but I was wanting to find out how popular this brand of home is. My other question has to do with correct terminology used to describe modern homes. I’ve heard nowadays it’s Manufactured Homes, but I still hear the term “Trailers” used, as well as Mobile Homes. I guess you might say as old as my home is, it would probably be correct to call it a Trailer. Anyway–I do seem to enjoy my home–it’s a comfortable home.

Nathan,
Breck homes were made in Breckenridge,Texas. They closed in 1984 or 1986. I have brought several and sold them with no problems.

I have worked on an old Breck and they seem to be well built. I had plumbing issues but not anything major.

Nathan,
I have found that the secondary market for mobile homes rarely, if ever asks the make or model of a mobile home. They just look at the home, the condition, location and most importantly the amount of money they need to put down and how much they have to pay per month.
For what its worth, your home is far better built than many of the older homes I have owned and/or still own. I have not heard of the brand name but again, it is so often overlooked.
As Tye wrote, we call them Trailers when we buy and Nice, Affordable Mobile Homes when we sell.
Lonnie Scruggs book “Deals On Wheels” is what got most if not all of us started (it costs about $30 here) and explains just how we buy, sell and finance these type of homes to best protect our investments and make money.
