Joe - since you suggested it:

“Where are the best legal places to post bandit signs?”

Couldn’t resist. But seriously, other than on your own property, where do you have “permission” to post these signs? I see them stuck in the grass at a lot of medians and intersections, but I’m guessing those guys don’t have permission. Is there a reasonable way of obtaining such permission?

What is a good way to attach a coroplast 18x24 bandit sign to a utility pole?
I have a staple gun but it seems like it would not hold the sign for a long time. I have seen other signs where a nail it used. And those signs are very hard to take off.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Tarun

Don’t use utility poles - Posted by Wayne(VA)

I work for a phone company and have had to navigate around signs, nails, staples, and other foreign objects embedded into telephone poles more times than I can count. These foreign objects are SERIOUS saftey hazards, and I know linemen that have fell off of poles when their gaff hit such an object.

I wouldn’t consider using a utility pole to hang signs on at all.

Ohio has a state law that prohibits anyone from attaching anything to any utility pole (except the utility company).

A lot of folks do not follow the rules, and so the rest of us have the problems.

The answer to the question is the shortest “roofing nail” available. Nail it in loosly so it can be removed w/ a large screwdriver or nail puller.

Do you really want to muck up your neighborhood with bandit signs on utility poles? Good grief.

There’s a reason for the local ordinances prohibiting this very thing. Signs on utility poles, besides being ugly, can be dangerous to the guy having to climb the pole. At the very least, they get in the way of his work.

Additionally, I suspect the people who matter remember the scofflaws who disregard the local statutes for their own gain and when you need that next permit or that kindly building inspector, they won’t hesitate to even the score.

Yes, I use bandit signs . . . but I place them where I have permission or on properties I already own. That’s seems like the reasonable thing to do.

And do you know what? If I never nailed another sign into the side of a house, I suspect I’d still do just fine in the real estate business.

The question should not be how to attach signs to utility poles. It should be something like “where are the best legal places to post bandit signs?”

Tarun,

Maybe try a heavy duty staple gun. I bought one last weekend and I don’t think it would hold your sign, but I think they have different “levels” of heavy duty staple guns, so you may just have to get one that uses more heavy duty staples. I’d ask someone at an office supply store or home depot type place.

Hello Tarun,
I would try staples that are used for electrical wiring. They can be purchased at any home improvement stores. When you want to remove the sign, just use a flat head screwdriver and pry the staple up. Most of the time you can reuse the staple…
