Bandit signs and being tracked down to fine - Posted by Shannon PA

On another message board, several people wrote how they were threatened to be fine for putting up bandit signs. It seems like such a PITA to have to go back and take them down. Now, if you don’t put your company name on the signs, would they really go through the trouble of doing a search on the phone number to see who to fine?
If so, is this a way to buck the system?:

Prepaid cell phone. I have a Virgin Mobile phone which is pay as you go. You could activate it under any name you want, as there is no credit check to get it. It has all the free amenities of the contract pay kind, voicemail, call forwarding, it’s even free to receive text messages, though you pay to send text messages. Anyway, it is the cheapest of the pay as you go phones as far as rates. 25 cents a minute for the 1st ten minutes a day, 10 cents thereafter. You can top up via credit card, or pay cash for a top up card at a local store (gas stations, drug stores, Circuit City, Best Buy, etc. the cards are available EVERYWHERE!)
Now, I believe it doesn’t cost you airtime to forward the calls to another number, so if you don’t want to pay 25 cents a minute (and who does, since we are going to be getting SO MANY CALLS), you’d just have all incoming calls to that prepaid number (the number you put on the signs) forwarded to your business landline or another, regular contract cell phone.

The way I see this NOT working is if people are alerted if their call is being forwarded, and to what number it is being forwarded. Anyone have any experience with forwarded calls? Are you told, or do you just think you are being connected to the number you dialed? So, would the township/code enforcement/whoever be able to see that phone number that IS under your name, or just the one that they dial??? Do I sound like a drug dealer or a terrorist? Actually, I got the idea from something after 9/11 about the terrorists using prepaid cellphones that couldn’t be tracked…I’m actually quite undevious by nature…

Just use your cell or a voicemail… I currently use ringcentral.com

Don’t put them out 200 at a time… 20 - 25 a whack per area is fine…

Go overboard and they might spend the time to track you…
