Bandit sign idea, questionable at best… - Posted by JP(SC)

Last night I spent a couple of hours putting out bandit signs. I saw a few things that got me thinking. I had an idea that made me chuckle but seems morally questionable. As we all know, the south is deeply religious. People have been posting the “ten commandments” signs all over the place. People eventually take down my signs (cost of doing business). BUT, what if I made a dual sign that contained my ad and on the same sign had the ten commandments? People would feel horrible about taking the sign down. Of course, I would be going straight to he]], but my signs might stay up a while.

What do you think?

The more effort someone puts into a ‘i buy houses’ sleaze ball sign, the more enjoyment I get from cutting it in half. Make my day

Studies show that the most words someone can absorb while driving by at high speeds is about six. The Ten Commandments would signifigantly exceed that, and clutter up your sign. Think about it - the large billboards almost never violate this rule, even the religious ones, i.e., “Alive with Pleasure”, “It’s the Real Thing”, “We Buy Ugly Houses”, or “We need to talk - G*D.” I think the greater lesson here would be to learn from the research that the big guys already paid for.

Jack,
These signs are really cheap and they work really well, even if they are only up for a little while. If someone takes down my signs, I put another up within a few days or even hours. My advertising budget takes into account do-gooders and jealous competition. I buy these signs in enormous bulk. Shark efforts only encourage me. For example, if a certain location gets sharked often, I just put up even more signs to compensate. Game on!

The idea would not be to make the 10 commandments readable. They would simply appear on the sign so that the when the shark goes to take it down they see it. I don’t care if the motorists see the commandments.

I am not getting your point. I think you should stick to Ebonics.

Maybe the Sleaze Ball Sign posters are just wimps where I live, they give up a lot quicker than you allege. Or, maybe you are just blowing hot air, your claim of putting even more signs out to compensate for stolen ones sounds dubious to me. What’s more probable?, hmmm…

My reply was meant to be tongue-in-cheek. In all seriousness, no, I wouldn’t use the Ten Commandments, the Tora, the Blessed Virgin, the Sacred Heart, the Holy Q’uran, the Bhagavad Gita, The Tibetan Book of the Dead, or any other religious icon or symbol for personal gain & profit. There are too many people in Washington doing that already…

Dear Friends,
How’s that for starting out on the right foot? I’m not in real estate, but you people are really sharp. So please give me your suggestions for effective use of bandit signs, and I will tell you what I’ve learned. Thanks.

I won’t tell the name of the company but it is a common supplier of signs online. It is no secret.

In sufficient bulk, I bought signs for less than $1 each, including the wire stakes to put them up. To me, that is cheap, but I bet others have done it cheaper.
