ATL sold paid taxes that resulted in a tax sale! - Posted by Sean

In the process of selling a house in the city of Atlanta I find out that someone has bought the right to collect unpaid taxes on my house for $65k with a redemption fee of $13k. The entire time owning this house the loan has been escrowed and I have cancelled checks proving that the entire amount of taxes were paid to the city of Atlanta and Fulton County. The original amount of taxes the city and county shows that were unpaid was a little over $2000. The tax commissioner office let a third party buy taxes they already recieved payment on and the third party forced a tax sale all without my or the current mortgage company knowledge. Not many attorneys specialize in this. I have had to do all the research on the laws and tracing what happened myself. I will be contacting the sheriffs department Monday morning. Does anyone have any advice or experience in dealing with a situation like this?
