Well, there are other options, such as investing in distant places, while living where you want.

I live in Oakland, CA, and have pretty much given up on investing in this area. Lately, all my purchases have been in OK.

Now, the problem with trying to advise you is that you don’t give any indication of your resources and your approach to investing. I don’t know what “strategies I’m reading about” might be. You might want to start checking around and see if you can find or figure out what strategies might work where you are. If you can put together a strategy that extracts cash from your area, you won’t have to move nor do investing in distant spots.

If you have not yet read my post for beginning investors, I suggest you do so. You can find it on the main board forum of this CREONLINE.COM website by putting “beginners success” into the search function. The first one is probably my Sept 2002 update of it.

I’m a total neophyte to the REI enterprise. I’ve begun my initial readings and I’m scrambling to climb the learning curve. Here’s my concern: I live in northeast N.J. which is comprised of an enclave of towns which function as bedroom communities for N.Y.C. Consequently, real estate prices in the area have become inflated (to put it mildly). Do I have any hope of putting some of the strategies I’m reading about into effect in such a locale or do I have to think about moving out of the area?
