A few ways to stall -
- Banruptcy as Dave Krulac mentioned
- also, if you are very close to making a deal happen,
then you can call the bank, tell them so and ask for
sale to be ‘continued’ (ie stalled) to one month from
now. If you are truly near a deal, alot of banks will
continue it for 30 days. - As far as short sales - I’ve seen short sales happen
a week before - depends on the bank - bigger, more
bureacratic banks, may not be able to entertain the
short sales offer, counter offers, etc. in a week.
A smaller local bank, where you can actually talk to a
person with decision ability instead of some corporate
schlub, could pull it off in a week.
