My brother-in-law had an affadavit of heirship drawn up. Mu husband has a blood sister only. He has three half sisters and a half brother. His half brother listed on the heirship on his father’s side his blood sisiters. On their mothers side he had my husband, his blood sister and his other half brother and half sisters. My husbands half brother’s wife is saying that my husband and his blood sister are not going to get as much as they are. Can you tell me if that is true?

Hello,

My father passed away a few years ago without a will. My step-mother is now asking me to sign an affadavit of heirship form so she can re-finance their house. When I sign this form, does it relinquish my rights to the equity secured in the home before he died? Thanks in advance.

I’d advise you to check your state’s laws on Intestate Succession (no will cases) and see what, if any, ownership interest you have.

And go very slowly on signing any doc on that property until your lawyer looks it over.
