I went through the same thing when I started. As soon as they realized I was a business, and not a private seller, the rate tripled.
I’ve just lived with the expense for several years. I finally told them I had to get a better rate, or I’d pull my ad. They suggested an annual contract. I agree to run continuously year round, I get about 20% off of the regular rate.

I have advertised quite a bit in my local newspaper. I called a few weeks ago and they told me that from now on I would have to pay the business rate. This rate is significantly more expensive. I have tried the smaller thrifty nickle type papers but the response was unmatched. Has anyone run into this situation and if so are there any suggestions.
