A buddy took the cheaper black roof coating approach, the
black stuff melted and ran down the sides of his home,
and the cooling bill doubled, its not a bargain, stick
with white or silver.

I know I am supposed to go with the silver kool seal, but at 25/ 5 gallon should I get the black and maybe plan on doing once every 3 years. Northern part of Ohio is where the homes are located. If it is a bad idea I will pay more for the silver kool seal but just making sure I’m not passing up a good deal.

Remember what the silver cool seal is suppose to do. Coat the metal so it does not corrode (like a paint) It is not intended to be a hole patcher. Also the black tar will not cover as much area so the cost is about equal. After several coats of black tar it will harden and come off in potato chip (and larger) sized chunks leaving the bare metal exposed. I would stick with the silver.
