VIN#, Serial#, same…? - Posted by Glen SoCal
Posted by Glen SoCal on September 06, 2005 at 22:25:16:
I received two serial numbers and a Decal number from a park manager for a
dbl wide that I’m looking in to.
I went to the DMV here in CA to check liens and the DMV attendant said that
the numbers I gave him do not show up in their records at all.
He asked me for the VIN # instead. I answered that the Decal and Serials were
all that were available.
He said to get the VIN# and he would be able to pull up the records.
I searched the archives a bit and couldn’t find an answer to this.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Glen

In CA, decal numbers are registered with the Housing Authority; VIN
with the DMV. The Housing Authority retreived the name of the lien
holder instantly.
