My husband and I are planning on purchasing a 2 family home with another couple. We have discussed the idea of having a contract drawn up for us but I am wondering if there is a standard contract or form to follow for tenants in common?

If you are listed as owners on the deed with them, you are automatically tenants in common. What you are looking for is an agreement amongst you about your roles, rights, duties and responsibilities, which can be done by a written agreement. The best thing to do would be to write up something, in plain English that spells these ideas out, then take it to an attorney to make sure it is legally correct. The attorney will also identify the appropriate legal issues that you may not have thought of.
