Does anyone know whom to contact to determine what a particular state’s laws / requirements are on selling Mobile Homes (i.e. how many per year before you are required to be a dealer…)? I want to research this before I jump in with buying and selling to remain legal. I just don’t know where to begin. Thanks

I found it in the Goverment Offices section of the phone book “Licensing Department”

Call the Dealer Licensing Section of the Secretary of States
office in Springfield.

The number is 217-782-7817

They will send you a package of info on what it takes
to get licensed.

Call your DMV dept of motor vehicles.
this is what I did. They determine
whether a MH is a vehicle or real estate.
For example, if the title has been surrendered.

Then, if it is real estate, you might be required
to have RE licence. Ask DMV how many you
can sell without being a dealer.

If over that limit, then you might have regulations
such as maintaining a certain size office.

So there is that window of circumstances where you
are not a vehicle dealer and not a Real Estate Agent.
Varies by state.

Dean,

I found the entire State of Texas statutes online at the state’s website. I found the proper link to this website at www.findlaw.com. I didn’t see Illinois listed at this site; however, you should be able to go to the Illinois home page and find contacts through the Attorney General’s office. Hope this helps.
