Unfortunately, it is difficult if not impossible to legislate common sense. All one can hope for is that we remember the words of a wise man who once said

“It is better to remain silent and appear a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.”

This news group has had a recent influx of rather irresponsible
posts. Many of our visitors are brand new to real estate. They
cannot yet tell the difference between good information and
bogus information.

Please, please, please answer questions here in a responsible
manner. If you don’t really know the answer–do NOT guess.
Some newbie may think you’re right and suffer for it.

This discussion group is by far the most interesting and active
real estate group on the entire internet. Let’s keep it that way.

As the editor, I am always walking a fine line between
facilitating an open and vigorous discussion and censorship.

I do NOT ever want to start deleting posts on the basis of
content. On the other hand, it’s rather disheartening to have
to alert visitors to the wrong information we are seeing here
lately.

There are many areas in this industry that are truly debatable,
and we have had the pleasure of seeing some exciting debates
here on a variety of unsettled topics. But there are also many
real estate topics that are not debatable. For example, how to
determine the market value of a single family house is a very
well-settled topic. Likewise, that a corporation’s first $50K in
profit is taxed at a 15% rate is a fact of life (until Congress
changes the tax code again).

I encourage everyone to participate here–just do so in a
responsible manner…please.
