I own a rental property that I am trying to rent. I had an interested renter with whom I verbally agreed to rent the property to. Within an hour of informing him I would rent it to him, I found out from several individuals in the rental community (I live out of town) that he has had several past diputes with landlords, owes several thousands of dollars in past due untility payments, etc. I do no want to rent to the person. I informed him immediately that I had changed my mind. I had not yet given him the contract to sign, and no money had exchanged hands. Does he have any future recourse against me because I verbally agreed to rent to him and then did not?

Since you already told him you changed your mind, I guess that horse is out of the barn. You will just have to see what happens, which will probably be nothing.
Had you not told him of your change of heart, you could have just forged right ahead. Meet him at the property with a bunch of paperwork.
