Keith that is for your tax info. They send you a 1099 at the end of the year.

hi guys,
i inherited a section 8 tenant when i bought a triplex, the local HUD office sent me a w 9 form to fill out in the mail without any instructions. i’ve been trying to reach someone at the local office to no avail … all the letter said that i should return these forms immediately if i want to be paid (which not suprisingly … i do)
so the question: is the w 9 form for my tax information or for the tenants? there’s also a section that says on this IRS form optional account information. is that likely a the deposit / escrow account at the bank? optional by the IRS but required by HUD?
i know this is a weird, perhaps esoteric question, but i’m brand spanking new at this landlord thing … so i thought it’s maybe for my info so they can report the money they give me to the IRS or thought maybe it was to protect the tenant and make sure, i’m putting the deposit in the bank
