Tell them to send you the contract. Give them your attorney number. Don’t let the agent waste your time. Yes, NY is lawyer heaven.

New York Real Estate Purchase - Posted by Jamie Lissow

Hi, I am trying to buy a property in NY. We made an offer and the seller accepted. They did a “Last and Final” since they had several offers and they chose ours. This was last wednesday and I just found out that we have no paperwork whatsoever stating that they accepted the offer. I was told by my real estate agent they do things differently in NY and we cannot get them to legally accept the offer until they get a lawyer. It has now been several days since we had the accepted offer. I’m just wondering why we bothered with the offer and acceptance if they can legally just wait for another offer to come in since it appears no agreement has really been made. Are things really that different in New York? Thanks!!
