My Thoughts On Today… - Posted by Terry (Houston)

Posted by Terry (Houston) on April 26, 2001 at 16:59:57:

After closing on one house yesterday afternoon and spending the evening signing up a buyer on a L/O late into last night I decided to take it easy today.

After taking my oldest daughter to school My wife, youngest daughter and I went to a rehab I have going to check the status. All was SNAFU of course and after getting one guy in line with my direction again we took off.

We headed to the park and, on this very beautiful day, I was able to push my youngest in a swing. Then I was able to do the same for momma. Neither of which I had done in a long time.

I was able to swing my daughter on my lap as well while over looking a great pond. Very scenic and peaceful. I took a picture of my wife swing our daughter on her lap and just had a great time.

I even slid down the slide next to her, my daughter, a couple of times. Unfortunately it was a slide with a few turns in it that did not quite accommodate my hips as well as it used to so we did not do that too many times.

There was a bush that was in bloom and all of the butterflies and bees were floating around it. You should of seen the look on the nearly 2 year olds face when she saw all of them. The look of wonder and joy…

Somewhere along the line it hit me very hard that it was not too long ago, the day before the convention, that it was time to go full time in this game. What a great and frightful decision it was at the time and, truthfully, it still spooks me.

After today it does not spook me as much. The family has always been the main reason behind my love of this field. The time I knew it would allow me to be outside when I wanted too and not when my J.O.B let me.

Tonight I get to coach my oldest daughter’s softball team. This weekend we will camp out. Tomorrow morning I get to sell another one, the Good Lord willing. Kind beats being on an airplane hoping it doesn’t get delayed and stuck overnight, or over the weekend, somewhere doesn’t it?

Kind of a nice day I think.

What are your goals?

This totally reflects how I feel- I take my girls to the park several times a week and cannot WAIT until my hubby can come with me- I feel like our lives will start when he quits his j.o.b., and it’s so soon, that it’s almost painful when he leaves in the morning. I feel so sorry for all of our friends who are missing out on life and their kids and devoting all of their time to their employers. I just feel so blessed to have found something that we love SO much and that we can actually make a (pretty good!) living doing. sigh

Thanks for that post.

Thanks for the inspiration. Great story.

Though I have been in busiess as a general contractor/builder I have made the switch, like you, to full time in real estate. And it is a little unnerving. Your story is an inspiration. Thanks for sharing it.

Like the saying goes–“You can’t have all Chiefs and no Indians.” So, welcome to the campfire, Chief, put on this headress!

Let’s see…

Found out today that two of the major software releases I’m trying to ship have major software bugs. Stop-ship orders were issued. Seems a beta tester from Exxon found the bugs our own testers couldn’t. We missed our date, and the VP will be asking what’s up. What enjoyment to look forward to tomorrow.

Oh, and since GE is in the process of buying my company, we now have to go through the GE indoctrination, er, I mean training. I get to spend four glorious days learning about six sigma. And my “greenbelt project” will be? How to improve risk management in the engineering dept. Pretty appropriate, don’t you think?

And I sit there wondering what it would be like to be on my own, and how many deals I missed while sitting in my office at my “high paying” corporate job. I guess you gave me a taste.

I swear I hear a clock ticking…

Yeah me… I went to a movie today…

But it is great to spend the time with my daughter. I get to do birthdays… and spend the time doing things I only dreamed about.

I’m so thankful everyday. Thinks for bringing it to the forefront… In my opinion if you keep the perspectives right you make more in the long run… because I think that is what it is all about, the money is just a by product.

It amazing also, I carry a few copies of Rich Dad Poor Dad with me most always to give to folks on occasion… I often wonder how many actually read it and take it to heart.

If only folks could see our lives and the freedoms we enjoy… and really believe it’s possible, the first time we tell them, LOl… I guess that’s the greatest by product… the freedom.

Terry,

It’s a tough job, but it has to be done. LOL

My wife and I were just talking today about the changes in our life since I don’t have a JOB anymore. I must admit, it is tough, I don’t know if I can stand one more vacation like our last cruise or trip to Hawaii.

Yesterday was Secretary’s Day and since my wife does some office work for me, I just HAD to take her for a 2 hour lunch. The company I work for is so great, they picked up the tab.

Sure made me miss the old job. NOT!

Here’s to more days like today my friend. You deserve them.

Your friend,

WilliamGA

PS…You better watch that cross posting! LOL

I rearranged my office a bit to make room for a new copier I had ordered. My 5 year old granddaughter was over and likes to play on the computer. She noticed that I had moved things around.

This morning her mother goes into her room and she had rearranged it. Her mother asks her why. She answers “Grandpa did it and I want to be just like Grandpa.”

I do hope she learns only the good attributes. If her parents and Grandma have anything thing to say, I’m sure she will.

That time with family is so valuable I may term liberal. Have the government support you until you’re 30 then work until you drop.

I’m a newbie and I can clearly see the wonderful picture you are all painting and that’s what keeps me motivated. I’m trying to get my first deal going by posting my bandit signs, flyers, etc. I faxed my contracts from Joe Kaiser to my attorney to review and I think I’m ready.

This site and everyone who posts on it are amazing and I don’t think I would’ve gotten going as fast if it wasn’t for everyone’s help, advice, and encouragement here. I have learned so much and am very grateful. I can see that day where my husband and I go for a walk, have a picnic, visit family and friends without worrying about getting home early to get up for work at 5:30am. (I won’t mind if I have to get up for real estate!) We’re planning on trying to have our first baby this year and I’m looking forward to the day I can tell my job I will work PER DIEM for them so that we can enjoy & take care of our kids. I feel so bad for the other nurses I work with who work their butts off weekends, nights, HOLIDAYS just to get by. NOT for me - I’ve known that for a long time and now I’ve found the way out. I like my job but I would like to make it my hobby and real estate investing my passion and career! Thanks so much to everyone!

Terry, steph, Rolfe and Ben,

I hear ya all. This creative real estate stuff with a little committment can change lifestyles. Been there, seen it. Now I don’t have kids, but I can just imagine the feeling of well being that you guys are feeling.

You don’t have to go out and punch the old clock from 8 to 5 everyday if you don’t want to. It’s your decision.

Bottom line is you guys are committed, most people are not. You reap the benefits, others do not.

Terry,
wow.
I love it.
I live it every day, and am so glad that I am exposed to other people that feel it too.
Is this the best ride ever or what?
I hope everyone on this site gets this someday. It’s awesome. I too remember a day, so very fresh in my mind. A day before CREonline. A day with my J.O.B.
It can happen so fast, people.
I have started a class in Austin, teaching newbies about what I have learned over the last 2 years. It is SO SO awesome to know that you’re helping these guys learn to feel just like you did today Terry.
I really dig heading for the top, and knowing that it won’t be lonely there! We’re all gonna be there together.
Thank you CREonline.

Terry;

It’s wonderful. Just today, as I was working in my home office, door to the deck open, wearing shorts and a t-shirt, having just filled the bird feeder, and hugging my 16 month old as she periodically needed attention, I thought about what a neat thing it is that my wife (and REI partner and mother of this one AND the next one due Oct 21!) and I are around as much as we are.

Our kids will have a clear understanding of where the money comes from, what being a family of entrepreneurs is all about, and how that part of our lives fits in with everything else.

Thanks for reminding me what a great thing this is!

is the real money renting mobile homes - Posted by mr watkins

Lonnie, a fellow investor told me about a mobile home investor who divides double wides into two seperate rental units. He then rents each side out weekly. He converts each side into a 2 bedroom 1 bath. he claims to make huge cash flow from these properties. Is this possible?

Now that is the way to think about things. I still have much to learn my Guru buddy.

This wasn’t a day off! My company paid me to go and have a Think Tank with the VP and straiten out our marketing plan. I have to follow the Board of Directors right?

And we all know it is very beneficial to obtain the council of a hard working member of the board like little Sophia right? She is in our ads as spokesperson and model and a very creative individual at that.

Too bad her bigger sister could not join the board meeting.

Sorry everyone I guess I did work! I still have much to learn master

Thanks William!

Hey Sue,

My former life was spent in surgery. Long hard hours, that I must admit, I did enjoy. All the call, and late nights sure seem far behind me now. I still take call every now and then. Makes it even more fun. Good luck to you. We’ll see ya at the top.
