Send them a certified letter, return receipt requesting that they not call you at work, as it could possibly jeopardize your job. Please note that they do have the right to call you at home as long as it is within reason (unless you have filed for bankruptcy).

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act does not pertain to anyone collecting their own debts. It only pertains to 3rd parties collecting someone else’s debts.

Don’t be rude to them. Remember, it was them that loaned you the money for the home and they are just trying to collect the money you owe them and promised to pay them.

If they get rude with you or make threats against you, you can report them to the Federal Trade Commission. I believe this can be done online.

One mistake people make is not speaking with their lenders when they experience problems making payments on their home loans. Did you know that in over 50% of the homes that go into foreclosure, the lender was never contacted? The people just sort of went into hiding. Lenders are mandated to try to work out problems with their mortgagors. Talk with your lender-NOW.

Fannie Mae has a very good video regarding loss mitigation that I believe everyone obtaining a new home loan should view prior to signing their closing documents. It lets them know just how much lenders and borrowers need to get together just as soon as problems begin. This is the website for the video. I hope you will look at it.
