I would like to do the same. I have several types of letters, but want to start doing Postcards (they will be read more often). I have found, though, that you get better response with letters if you deliver them yourself and tape them to the door if the owner isn’t home. If they are, you can tell them you want to buy their house. This either provokes a nice response or out comes the shotgun.
So, needless to say, although I think a better response is one on one, I want to try postcards. I have sent out hundreds of letters with little to no response, so the trick is to find the pre-foreclosures and send the same list a letter a week for several weeks (if they have that much time). If you find someone in trustee sale mode, then you may want to send them out every other day…
