Check with a local furnace company. They should know or be able to tell you how to get a ball park estimte. Yes you have to treat the abestos “special” and yes it costs bucks!!!

Have any of you ever removed an old gravity furnace while rehabbing? If so, did you have to get a special asbestos removal guy to remove the asbestos around the ducts. Was it exspensive? I am buying a house that has one of these monster furnaces and would appreciate any input. Thanks.

if it works, don’t fix it. if you are flipping or renting, why replace a furnance that works. most of the old gravity furnances have cast iron heat exchanger and can last 50 to 100 years, much more durable than the steel heat exchangers.
