I’m buying a property up here in NJ but the owner died in Tifton, GA (Tift County). The woman in the surrogate’s office (I’m not sure exactly who since it was one of the heirs who lives in GA asking the questions) says that a public notice must be ran in the paper for 4 weekends in a row even though there’s an option on the application to opt out of this. All the heirs (5 of them) are all on the same page and in agreement as to what to do with the estate. We’re ready to close but now have to push back the closing date a month because of the 4 week rule. Anyone in GA heard of this?

BTW - The property is scheduled for sheriff sale on 1/3/05. The owner gets two 2 week adjournments but I wanted to stay clear away from the auction date without having to file an adjournment.

Anyway around the 4 week notice rule in GA?
