Electrical outlets in floor. - Posted by Dean C.

I have a house in Michigan under contract. The breaker box and wiring look relativly new but the electrical outlets are in the floor. Anyone know if this will pass code or will I have to upgrade them if I buy the house?

Thanks,
Dean C.

I own several properties with electrical outlets in the floor. It has never been a problem. I do not know if you are planning to upgrade and must have an electrical inspection or not, but if you do, you may have to make some changes. If you are not going to do any renovations that require inspections, just let it go. You do not have to bring a house up to current code every time it changes hands. If you look closely at any older home, there are tons of things in the house that do not meet “code” today, but that does not necessarily mean that they are defective.
