That is great advice. I owned a convenience store for a while. Wish that I would have worked in one on the side before buying one.

Ed, as an experienced lender yourself…can you give me any pointers on how to get started in the lending business/becoming a mortgage broker.

I’m currently working on my license and have taken some mortgage lending classes. I just want to know the best way to get started, the actual process, good lending institutions to work with etc etc. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Jeanelle,

My suggestion is to go to work for another Mortgage Company for a while. At least 6 months. In doing so, the first thing you will find out is, is this business for you?

Secondly, you will have the opportunity to learn the business and get experience at another company’s expense. You will learn the laws, dos and don’ts, and a format of an existing functioning mortgage company you can either mirror or modify from.
