I guess for our context, I didn’t want to call any of us stupid, just a bunch of silly rei folks having a breakfast and networking.

Depending on size and longetivity, I would suspect you will get different answers.
I started a local club, PCI - Pierce County Investors, and we only had our 2nd meeting last Saturday. Real informal, more of a networking and meeting others in the area than that of speakers at this point.
Our 1st one was to meet and greet everyone and I wanted to get everyone’s thought about the time and dates I selected, as well as the place. The 2nd one had an agenda to cover some basics and I had reserved the banquet room and it was all ready for us.
Future meetings will still be informal and more of a meet and greet for those who work the area. We discussed having our own members make presentation on deals as they develop so everyone learns.
We end with group discussions around the table just discussing different deals we are working on.
Our next meeting will again have a few things on the agenda, and then open discussions. My goal is to get people of like mind in the same room for a monthly breakfast and network. Speakers, libraries, and other things a big club has can come later. I like the KISS method at this time; Keep It Small Silly.

Hi Mike. I will shed some light on how R.E.I. meetings are VERY important!!
You say small area: I don’t need to know where. If you look at the left hand side of CRE’s homepage, it will say under “Resources” local REI clubs. Look up your state and see which ones are closest to you.
Depending on each club MANY different things can go on.
Some clubs will have a “national” speaker on how they made it BIG in RE. Other times it is just a way of “networking” with other “like-minded” people.
If you do not have one nearby in your area, then form a “master-mind” group with some local investors.
You can all meet at some place that is centrally located for all of you.
The FIRST thing I did when I got into RE, was to join a REI club. Was the BEST thing I ever did.
I have heard 2 different national speakers. Well worth the time.
Most likely the meetings will meet once a month, and some will have sub-groups(weekly). Good Luck in finding or starting some clubs!!
