partially because the fees paid to the state vary widely, partly because more demand creates higher prices. You can check out the cost to do it yourself in your state on your Secretary of State’s website, then you can compare the attorney’s fee after subtracting out their costs (which will be the same as doing it yourself) to see which way you want to go. In some states you can do this online and its quite fast.
