Have expereinced the same. Once got an entire street for a city block. Needless to say the city was perplexed.

What normally happens is they come back to you with some city council or state statute from bygone days saying they can correct the mistake.

In my case they would only pay me what I had invested. No inerest, no penalty, nothing other than to make me whole for investment.

Gave me a paper to sign, waited about six weeks and got my $$$ back.

I suspect they will do the same with you. Arriving at what they consider a fair amount for the part under the street…give you a sort of take it or else…and that will be that.

Recently purchased a non-conforming parcel for back taxes only to find that the city built (improved street) over a portion some thirteen years ago. County records were incorrect as to location and, apparently, no one looked closely enough at the plat to find it. City management seems friendly enough and interested in acquiring at least part.

Anyone had anything like this before?
